Tyler's Story

Tyler, Age 13

Hello, My name is Tyler A and I am now thirteen. I have my own story about my battle with Crohns disease, at least that's what every doctor has said that I have. I was diagnosed with Crohns Disease in October of 1998, I had severe abdominal pain and I could hardly eat because I subconsciously thought that if I ate it would make it hurt more. So I hardly ever ate and I dropped down from 100 pounds to almost 50. Then on January 4, 1999; I received a colonoscopy from my gasteroenterologist.

I speculate that on that day while taking a biopsy, my gastroenterologist punctured my bowel and eventually pus started to fill in through that hole into my pelvic cavity and exactly 10 days later I was in the hospital with a distended abdomen, severe abdominal pains and I could hardly move. I was in that hospital for almost a month and I went home with a colostomy and 20 pounds lighter, a very bad thing.

Two months later I got my colostomy reversed and I was in therapy to try and get myself eating again. In March, I was back in the hospital for a giant pimple like mound on my abdomen that eventually exploded. It developed into a fistula and that was all in 1999.It is now 2001 andI am still where I was way back when.

Recently my mom found out that I probably had an adverse effect from the Hepatitus B vaccine. Please, I need to encourage all of you who read this to write to your congressmen, your senator, even the President. I also urge you to find the right doctor who will listen to your concerns and questions.
