Natalie's Story
Natalie, Age 8
Once, I had a bug. It didn't go away for a month. My mother got scared.
The medicine I took messed up my stomach even more. Then my mother found out that I had Ulcerative Colitis! I was like, "Ulsurti-what?" and I had to start taking a pill. I was too scared to swallow a pill, so mom had to open it up on a spoon.
I got very sick and went to the hospital, and was scared to death. (Although I started new pills in the hospital and now I'm on EVEN more pills)
I had a catheter, an I.V., and something else, too. After I was out of the hospital, I had what I think was called a "sigmoidoscopy". It's when they stick a camera up your rear end, and you're also on a medicine that makes you sleep before the procedure.
I had to drink stuff that was horrid, but I drank just so I could get it over with. Then once I had an endoscopy (this one's in your mouth) with a colonoscopy (they go deeper into your rear end) and then I had another one with the same two things. My mom said that she won't schedule a colonoscopy or anything like that for a long time. And we had a change of diagnosis this time!! I actually have Crohn's Disease.
Now I take my pills in pill-size, because I boosted my confidence after an "IBD KIDZ" meeting. They're fun meetings.
Anyway, I hope all you kids with "IBD" will somehow be cured of "IBD". Yes, you guys with the diabetes, the asthma, and the cancer, too. I hope all us people with health problems someday find a cure.
