Alex2's Story

This all started last January when my son, Alex, was on antibiotics for either strep or an ear infection. We took him off the drug immediately but he continued to have bloody diarrhea. We tried everything the ped suggested but it never got better.

We took him to a ped GI who did an endoscopy and colonoscopy and diagnosed him w/ a mild case of UC. Or so she thought. Her exact words were, "I am leaning towards that diagnosis however, I would have expected to see more blood". Not exactly a 100% diagnosis.

We took him to a 2nd GI who agreed w/ her (we later found out that he never even read the colonoscopy results). He was put on Pentassa 4x a day. We opened the capsule into peanut butter or yogurt. Another ped suggested having him tested for allergies using a special test. We found out Alex was highly allergic to peanut butter (although he never exhibited any signs) as well as pretty much everything. The GI put him on prednison in June. The pentassa was reintroduced a week later and he seemed to relapse. So we stopped. got it under control and introduced it a 2nd time. again, he relapsed. So a 3rd GI recommended Imuran. He started Imuran in September and was weaned off the steroids by October. he's been fine until the last few days. Looser poops. Then today a trace of blood. Don't know what's going to happen. I read all these parent's stories and my son hasn't been so bad. You'd never know he was sick. I'm just hoping it doesn't get worse
